A 66-year-old TDOT employee miraculously escaped serious injury after sideswiping another vehicle and chopping down two utility poles with the Ford Ranger he was driving Friday. According to the THP, Roger Ruble of Overton County was traveling west on Highway 70 in the Tennessee Department of Transportation-owned 2011 Ranger pickup when he hit an eastbound pickup driven by Randall Blaylock, taking a mirror off the driver’s door of Blaylock’s vehicle. Ruble then left the roadway on the right side and struck two utility poles. The truck came to rest on its side in a ditch line. Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department’s Extrication and Rescue Team removed Ruble from the wreckage of the Ranger, and Members of the sheriff’s department, along with Constable Mark Milam, assisted at the scene. DeKalb EMS was also called to the scene, but Ruble refused to be taken to the hospital. Tennessee State Trooper Chris Delong said that Ruble may have been suffering from a medical condition at the time of the incident.
