The sheriff’s department has arrested a 19-year-old man and charged him with the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The child's mother was charged with child endangerment for allowing the two to have sex in her home.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, 48-year-old Edna Jeanette Cox allowed Bryan Thomas Thompson to move into her Gentry Avenue home, and also allowed him to bed down in the same room with her daughter, knowing that he and the 13-year-old were having sex.
Ray said Cox was aware that Thompson was already wanted on charges that he had sex with a minor in Smith County, and that she even advised the two to use protection.
According to the warrant, Cox’s actions placed her daughter in danger.
The sheriff said that Thompson admitted to having engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl on several occasions beginning on June 30, and that he knew that it was wrong.
Cox is under a $15,000 bond, and Thompson's bond is $36,500. They will both be in court on Sept. 13.

He reportedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and his speech was slurred.
Miller resisted arrest and deputies took him to the ground.
He was handcuffed and taken to the jail for booking.
His bonds total $4,500 and he will be in court on Sept. 13.
