A 19 year-old man was charged with theft of property after he test drove a vehicle, had duplicated keys made, later stole the vehicle and posted photos of it.
Chandler Maynard was arrested on March 6 for theft of property after test driving a 2001 Chevy Blazer belonging to Glynn’s Auto Sales on Feb. 24. Maynard allegedly can be seen on surveillance video at Wal-Mart and Ace Hardware, during the test drive, attempting to make a copy of the vehicles ignition key and door key. Maynard was successful at Ace Hardware getting copy of both keys. On Feb. 27 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Chandler allegedly went back to Glynn’s Auto Sales and stole the vehicle. Upon investigation, the detective had seen where Maynard posted a picture of a vehicle which looked like the stolen vehicle in question which was later identified by the car lot. As a result of a street sign in the background, the Columbia Police Dept. was able to make contact with Maynard and locate the stolen vehicle. Maynard was interviewed in Columbia where he was placed under arrest, served with warrants and extradited back to Smithville. His bond was set at $7,000, and he will appear in court March 30.
Thirty-five year-old Kenneth Lee Bain, Jr saw trouble with the law two times in one day.
Bain was cited with three counts of simple possession on March 4. When police responded to a fight on Wade Street, Bain informed the officer that he was the victim. After taking Bain’s statement, he was asked and gave consent to be searched. The search resulted him allegedly in possession of three round pills believed to be Clonazepam, 13 yellow pills believed to be Alprazolam, 4.5 white round pills believed to be Buprenorphine, and five white gel pills believed to be Lyrica that he could not provide a prescription for. He will appear in court on April 6.
Bain’s second encounter with the law occurred when police received a call about a possible intoxicated person at Taco Bell.
Roxanne Landis, 32, was arrested on March 4 for public intoxication and tampering with evidence while Kenneth Lee Bain, Jr, 35 was arrested for simple possession of schedule IV drug and public intoxication. Police received a call about a possible intoxicated person at Taco Bell. When officers arrived, they found Roxanne Landis, 32 in the men’s bathroom where they observed her trying to throw pills down the toilet and flush them. Landis had slurred speech, unsteady on her feet and could barely keep her eyes open to talk with officers. Police also made contact with Kenneth Lee Bain, Jr in the parking lot and noticed that he had slurred speech, unsteady on his feet, and could barely keep his eyes open as well. Bain was found to be in possession of five round pills believed to be Clonazepam, two small yellow pieces believed to be Xanax, and 13.5 white rectangle bars believed to be Alprazolam. Bond for Landis was set at $6,500.00 and bond for Bain as set at $4,500. They are both to appear in court March 30.
Landis was again in trouble with police just five days later on March 9. She was cited with simple possession after police responded to an intoxicated person at Oak and East Main Street. She was allegedly found to be in possession of nine Lyrica pills with no valid prescription. She will appear in court in the case on March 30.
Michael Strange, 30, was arrested on Feb. 26 for domestic assault. Officers responding to a domestic call spoke with the parties involved who had allegedly been grabbed by the neck and pushed down by Strange. A red mark was visible. His bond was set at $2,500, and he is to appear in court March 30.
Clent Lee Shehane, 31, was arrested on March 1 for domestic assault. Officers reported that Shehane had a hypodermic needle filled with an unknown substance and threatened to stab the victim with it. His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court March 30.
Twenty-five year-old Anthony Charles South was arrested for violation of an order of protection on March 2. He allegedly made communication through a post on social media to the victim who is a protected party and he is the respondent. His bond was set at $1,500, and his court date was set for March 30.
Brandi Leigh Whittaker, 18, was cited for simple possession on March 3. Police observed Whittaker traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph speed zone and upon conducting a traffic stop and getting consent to search, recovered 16.5 round peach colored pills identified as Alprazolam. She did not have a prescription for the medication. She will appear in court March 30.
35 year-old Jermaica Cherome League, 35, was cited for vandalism on March 8. League was upset because he believed the victim had stolen some money from him and became angry and busted the window out of the victim’s vehicle with a steel pipe. He will appear in court on March 16.
Jamaal Ahmad League, 29, was arrested for public intoxication on March 8. Police responded to Taco Bell in reference to a male subject that was yelling and cussing at the employees. Police made contact with League on Cherry St and observed him to have slurred speech, blood shot eyes, unsteady on his feet, and a smell of alcohol on his person. His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court April 6.
