A local man was taken into custody last week after a sheriff’s deputy allegedly found him to be intoxicated and in possession of two handguns while driving with a two-year-old child in the vehicle.
Jeremy Arron Bilbrey, 39, was arrested on that April 18 and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a deputy was dispatched to McMinnville Highway at 6:23 p.m. on April 18 in reference to a blue Cadillac driving recklessly. The officer reportedly made contact with the vehicle, saw it repeatedly cross the centerline into the turning lane, and performed a traffic stop.
The deputy found the driver, Bilbrey, to have glassy eyes and slurred speech, and he reportedly performed poorly field sobriety tasks. He allegedly admitted that he had taken his pain medication earlier in the day.
Ray said there was also a two-year-old child in the vehicle at the time.
The deputy allegedly found two handguns on the front passenger side of the vehicle as well, a Sig Sauer model p223 and a Glock model 19.
Bilbrey was also written a citation for leaving his lane of travel and violation of the implied consent law after he reportedly consented to a blood test, and then refused when he got to the hospital.
His total bond is $3,000, and he will appear in court on May 15.
Meanwhile, Harold Gene Blackwell was arrested on April 16 for evading arrest.
Ray said the sheriff’s department received a radio call from a deputy at about 8:30 a.m. that a blue Toyota Tacoma had almost hit his patrol car on Sparta Highway, and was traveling towards Smithville. Another deputy reportedly met Blackwell just east of Evans Mill Road, and when he turned around to stop the vehicle it turned on to Evans Mill Road at a high rate of speed.
The sheriff said the deputy turned on to Evans Mill Road and activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which continued on, slowing down at the curb by the Smithville sewer plant, but not stopping.
Blackwell stopped at the entrance to Evans Mill, and was charged with evading arrest while operating a motor vehicle and written citations for “driving on roadway lane for traffic” and reckless driving.
His bond was set at $5,000, and he will appear in court on May 15.
Michael Anthony Leichtfuss, 22, was arrested on April 18 for introduction of drugs into a penal institution.
While doing a weekend in jail on April 14, Leichtfuss was observed on video performing a suspicious act. When correctional officers entered the cell to investigate, he rose to his feet and a pill believed to be Xanax, a Schedule IV drug, fell from his person onto the floor near his bunk.
He allegedly admitted that the pill belonged to him.
His bond was set at $5000, and he will appear in court on April 24.
Rikke Patterson, 40, was arrested on April 18 and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.
The sheriff said a deputy was dispatched to Highway 56 north in response to a suspicious person inside a business on April 1. The woman, Patterson, was allegedly upset and asking for money.
The debut made contact with Patterson, who reportedly had slurred speech, was unsteady on her feet, and had a bluish white powdery substance in the corners of her mouth. Ray said she told an employee that she needed money for her dog, family and bills.
As the deputy was speaking to her she stated that she needed money because someone had tied her husband up, and her children might also be in danger.
Patterson apparently became more upset and moved towards the drivers door of her vehicle in an attempt to leave. Given the belief that she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, the deputy grabbed her arm to prevent her from entering the vehicle.
Ray said Patterson then pulled away and swung her arms at the officer. After a second attempt to stop her, the deputy took her to the ground and cuffed her by force. She was transported to DeKalb Community Hospital.
A welfare check was conducted on the husband and the children by the sheriffs department, and they were reportedly found to be well and in good health.
3500 Dollar Bond Court date April 24 Her bond was set at $3,500, and she will appear in court on April 24.
James Clayton Henley, Jr., 42, was arrested for domestic assault on April 19.
A deputy sent to Willis McGinnis Road in response to a domestic assault call reportedly made contact with Henley, who had a bleeding head injury, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Upon speaking to all parties, it was found that Henley drove to the residence in a highly intoxicated state, and was upset about an argument he had with his wife earlier in the day.
The male victim reportedly met him in the driveway to see what was wrong. Henley yelled and screamed at the victim, then removed his glasses and swung his fist at the victims face. Ray said the victim blocked the punch and used force against to himself. Due to Henley’s level of intoxication, the male victim removed the keys from his vehicle to prevent him from driving.
Another person apparently witnessed the entire event. Henley’s bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on May 1.
