Legendary Coach Jerry (Red) Foster will be honored Friday in a memorial service at DeKalb County High School with schools closing at 11:30 a.m. in his honor.
Coach Foster passed away Tuesday at his home. He was a former DCHS girls’ basketball coach from 1993-200, amassing a 93-85 record at the helm of the local girls’ program. Prior to that time he served as coach of the freshman boys’ team from 1983-89, having a 92-22 record. He also coached in Jackson County as head boys’ coach. He most recently served as a teacher at Northside Elementary School.
The memorial service for Coach Foster will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the DCHS Gymnasium. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at the gym.
