Les Paul Miller, 27 of Barnes Mill Road was charged with being a fugitive from justice on April 28.
Sheriff Ray said that a warrant check revealed that Miller is wanted in Michigan on an outstanding warrant for being a parole absconder.
His bond was set at $500,000, and he will appear in court on April 28.
A Dowelltown man was charged with child abuse on April 16.
The sheriff said that Barrett Clay Tipton, 27, of Dowelltown was taken into custody after it was determined that he had inflicted injury on a four-year-old at his Circle Drive home. Tipton allegedly smacked the child in the face hard enough to knock the youngster to the ground.
During an interview a few days after the alleged incident, members of the Department of Children Services reportedly noticed bruising on the left side of the child’s face. When they asked the youngster what happened to cause the bruising, the child allegedly told them that Barrett had struck him.
Ray said the assault was also captured on video.
Tipton’s bond was set at $10,000, and he will appear in court on May 5.
Willie Ray Murphy, 34, was charged with resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest or search on April 2.
The sheriff said a deputy was attempting to arrest Murphy on a violation of probation warrant from Smith County when Murphy tried to get away from the lawman. He was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
James Nathaniel Pettit, 21, of Alexandria was charged with domestic assault on April 23.
Ray said a deputy responding to a residence on Locust Street to check out reports of a domestic disturbance spoke with a Pettit and his wife. Pettit was determined to have been the primary aggressor. He allegedly laid on the woman, restricting her movements, and then kicked her out of bed. He also allegedly broke the door to a closet where she had been hiding when calling 911.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on May 5.
Veronica Lucille St. Hilaire, 32, was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended or revoked license, and was cited for no insurance, violation of the implied consent law, violation of the open container law, for an automobile lacking a vehicle identification (VIN) number, and for criminal impersonation on April 24.
The sheriff said a deputy responding to Highway 70 near the old Spinners Diner location where someone was found slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle in the roadway arrived on the scene to find that EMS personnel had already arrived and were talking to St. Hilaire.
Her speech was allegedly slurred, and she was unaware of her whereabouts. The deputy reportedly found an open bottle of vodka in a cup holder next to the driver’s seat of her vehicle. An empty vodka bottle was allegedly found in the back seat.
Ray said St. Hilaire did not have a valid driver license, and a check confirmed that her license was revoked for a previous driving under the influence offense. Her vehicle did not have a VIN number plate on the dashboard showing proper registration, and she also falsely identified herself to the officer as Monica Gonzales.
Her bond was set at $5,000, and she will appear in court on May 5.
An employee of a local business was cited for selling alcohol on Sunday on April 24.
Ray said that after his department received complaints of alcohol being sold on Sunday, Acting on complaints of illegal Sunday sales of beer, the Sheriff’s Department cited an employee of Maggie’s Landing after she sold an alcoholic beverage to an undercover operative.
An undercover agent reportedly went into Maggie’s Landing that Sunday, where he purchased alcohol and left the business with the beverage. 50-year-old Lisa Sowell Dulley was issued a citation for unlawful sale of alcoholic beverages.
