Charges are pending against the mother of a 12-year-old girl who went missing, her picture landing on the TBI’s endangered child alert page before she was found safe eight days after her disappearance.

The girl, Brielle Bowling, was recovered from a residence in Brentwood. Her mother, Wendy Dawn Hancock, 42, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants charging domestic assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The girl went missing Aug. 8 prompting a state-wide endangered child alert to be issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Smithville police investigated the disappearance and were able to locate the child eight days later by tracing the mother’s phone to a residence in Brentwood. That’s where both mother and daughter were found when Williamson County authorities knocked on the front door.

At issue is that Hancock did not reportedly have custody of the child at the time she took her out of the county. Given the allegation she was the non-custodial parent, police are discussing with prosecutors as to what charges can be taken against her, aside from the domestic assault and contributing charges she already faces, for taking the child across county lines.
