Early Voting for the Aug. 7 DeKalb County General Election, the Smithville and Dowelltown Municipal Elections, and the Tennessee Democratic and Republican Primaries began Friday, and more than 500 voters cast ballots by the close of voting Monday.

 

A total of 539 voters visited the polls in the first three days of early voting, 489 in person, and 50 by absentee ballot. Voters who participated only in the general election totaled 184, while 201 voted in the republican primary, and 154 chose the democratic primary. Voters in DeKalb County will choose a sheriff, general sessions judge, county mayor, road supervisor, county clerk, trustee, circuit court clerk, register of deeds, 14 county commissioners, five school board members, and three constables. Voters in the 13th Judicial District will choose five judges, a district attorney general, and a district public defender.

 

Smithville voters will elect a mayor and two aldermen, while Dowelltown residents will pick three aldermen.

 

Democrats and Republicans statewide will vote whether or not to retain several state judges, and for nominees for governor, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator, and state representative, along with state executive committeemen and women. Winners in the primaries will go head to head in the Tennessee General Election in November.

 

Early voting will continue through Aug. 2 on the first floor of the courthouse during the following hours.

 

Mondays: 1-6 p.m.

 

Tuesdays: 9 am.- 1 p.m.

 

Wednesdays: 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

 

Thursday: 2-6 p.m.

 

Fridays: 9.a.m.- 1 p.m.
