DeKalb County Mayor Mike Foster and Motlow College officials will host an informational meeting on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. at the DeKalb County Executive Offices at 732 South Congress Blvd.
Citizens who are interested in attending college classes in the newly renovated building or potential adjunct faculty interested in teaching are invited to attend. The goal of the meeting is to continue plans for citizens to be able to begin taking college courses in Smithville.
“DeKalb County has invited Motlow College, as a guest, to work with the community to identify unmet educational needs. I see this opportunity as one of the quickest ways to help our people. I know how important it is that we all have the chance to go to college. We hope this is enough incentive for our citizens to begin, let them see they can do it and be encouraged to finish a college degree,” said Foster
Melody Edmunds, director of the Motlow College McMinnville Center, will be attending the meeting to assist Foster.
“We are very excited about Motlow College having this additional opportunity to help meet the educational needs of DeKalb County,” Edmonds noted.
Earlier in the year, Les Enoch, board member of the CIC Foundation, Inc., presented a check to the Motlow College Foundation to help DeKalb County for the classroom project in the newly renovated building.
Dr. Mary Lou Apple, president of Motlow College said, “DeKalb County is one of the 11 counties we serve. We will work with officials to help identify classes that would benefit the community.
With the Foundation’s gift from Mr. Enoch, we hope to be able to support the DeKalb County project with equipment and other needs for their new classrooms.”
