Nichols charged with theft, vandalism

A 37-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with a recent theft and the vandalism of a pickup truck.

 

Robert Lee Nichols, Jr. was charged with burglary, theft of property under $500, vandalism, and driving on a suspended or revoked license on Nov. 10.

 

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, said that Nichols and another person broke into a 1998 Nissan Frontier and stole a machete and foldup chair on Nov. 9. The pair allegedly broke the truck window to gain entry.

 

Nichols was arrested the next day after being stopped on Hodges Road for driving on a revoked license. No other arrests have yet been made. The case was investigated by a detective of the sheriff’s department.

 

His bond was set at $11,500 and he will appear in court on Dec. 1.

 

Meanwhile, David Ray Johnson, 54, was arrested for criminal impersonation and evading arrest, as well as being cited for simple possession of a Schedule VI drug (marijuana), driving on a suspended license, and driving with expired plates, on Nov. 13.

 

The sheriff said a detective responding to McDonalds in reference to a wanted person (Johnson) on saw Johnson sitting inside a vehicle and approached it. Johnson allegedly told the lawman his name was Kenneth Jones. It was later learned that Johnson had lied about his identity. Johnson was admitted to the hospital because of a medical condition that day.

 

Then, on Nov. 13, a deputy reportedly attempted to stop a white Honda for a registration violation, but when he active his emergency equipment the car accelerated, traveling west on Main Street in Dowelltown. The Honda disappeared from the officer’s view, but the deputy continued to travel west on until he came upon the Honda crashed on the side of the street.

 

Johnson allegedly exited the vehicle and tried to hide in a rock ravine. A pill bottle bearing his name and containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana was allegedly found near Johnson.

 

Johnson is reportedly being held without bond due to violations of court orders, and will appear in court on Dec. 16.

 

Clay Andrew Bain, 25, was charged with vandalism on Nov. 10.

 

Ray said that while two correctional officers were transporting Bain to the Robertson County Jail on Aug. 25, Bain kicked the back window of the patrol car until he broke the frame away from the car door and bent the outer door body.

 

His bond is $5,000.
