No injuries in bus crash

No one was apparently injured when a special education bus left the roadway in a Thursday afternoon on accident on Walkers Creek Road. Bus driver Dwight Knowles, two students and an educational assistant who were reportedly on board the eastbound bus when it met a westbound Ford Focus driven by Susan Coats of Alexandria in a sharp curve. Contact between the two vehicles was avoided, but the bus left the road on the right side and came to a stop in a ditchline with its left wheels off the ground. The occupants of the bus were able to escape through the rear emergency door, and another nearby bus which had just completed its route was dispatched to take the students home. The accident was investigated by Sergeant Eric McCormick of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. According to DeKalb County Schools Director of Transportation Jimmy Sprague, the bus suffered minor damage, and is ready to return to service after approval by a state inspector. A spare bus will replace it until then.
