A woman who couldn’t first recall if she had a single beer or several of them has been granted probation.
The woman, Melody Ann Thomas, 57, entered a guilty plea to the charge of reckless endangerment and was issued an 11-month, 29-day probationary sentence by the court.
Thomas was pulled over by a deputy after he spotted her Nissan weaving as he responded to a reckless driving call on Short Mountain Highway.
“He made a traffic stop and talked with the driver,” said Sheriff Patrick Ray. “Her eyes were bloodshot and she had a strong odor of alcohol on her person.”
The officer then questioned her about the amount of alcohol she he imbibed that day. She originally low-balled the deputy but then came clean.
“She initially admitted to consuming one beer,” the sheriff revealed. “But later, said she had several beers.”
The sheriff noted that Thomas performed poorly on her sobriety test.
