A gunshot victim, said by witnesses at the scene to be Jamie Murphy, was transported to DeKalb Community Hospital by DeKalb EMS Tuesday around noon. According to witnesses, Murphy was shot one time in the upper left arm with possibly a .25 caliber pistol. Multiple suspects were taken into custody by the Smithville Police Department, and the incident is under investigation.
Detective Matt Holmes of the Smithville Police Department told the Review that while information was still sketchy, he could confirm that a man had been shot. "We are treating one victim with at least one gunshot wound, and there are multiple people we will be talking to during the investigation," the detective said.
An eyewitness at the scene told the Review that this all began with an argument a few days ago between Murphy and the suspected shooter. The men then apparently had a physical altercation. Yesterday, as Murphy and his son were driving on Juniper Lane, they saw the suspected shooter waving a gun at them as they drove by. Shots were fired, and vehicles were also involved, ending with Murphy being hit in the arm by at least one of the shots.
The Smithville Police Department is conducting a full investigation into the incident.
