The City of Smithville named a full-time fire chief Monday night.The aldermen voted unanimously to make long-time volunteer fire chief Charlie Parker the city’s first full-time chief.Parker has served on the department for 32 years, and has been volunteer fire chief for 21 years.Applications were taken for the position, and Parker was the only candidate.“Charlie has dedicated his life to this fire department, and we are lucky to have him and all the other dedicated people who spend so much time with the department,” Mayor Jimmy Poss said before the vote.“I was lucky that I could put 21 years experience of on-the-job training as fire chief on my resume,” Parker quipped.
