Local Cub Scouts place flags on Veteran's graves

Each year DeKalb Funeral Chapel and its staff provides a small American flag for families of veterans prior to Memorial Day. This year they went a little farther and placed flags on veterans’ graves with the help of local scouts.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel partnered with the local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to place flags on Veterans’ graves, just prior to Memorial Day, at DeKalb Memorial Gardens, Whorton Springs and DeKalb Cemeteries.  Tara, Jaley, Maddox and Michael Hale, of DeKalb Funeral Chapel, provided the flags and joined with scouts to place the flags at the three cemeteries.

“What a humbling experience to take time out, to honor those that fought for the freedoms that we all enjoy,” said Michael Hale. “I had reached out to Jen Sherwood and Phillip Russell and told them that we would like to provide the flags and join with them to help place them on the graves.”

Cub Scout Pack 347 (Ben Waggoner, Phillip Russell and Malachi VanDeVeer) and Boy Scout Troop 347 (Zackary Cantrell, Brenden Wagner, Carter Dias and Darren Waggoner) and their parents all did an amazing job with this special event.
