A Smithville woman lost her life Friday night after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 70 between DeKalb Market and Maggies Landing.Christina Adams, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened just after 8 p.m.Trooper Dewaine Jennings of the Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that Adams was hit by a 2005 Ford Mustang driven by a 17-year-old female, which was traveling west on Highway 70.The driver, who was not believed to be seriously physically injured, reportedly struck Adams accidently because she was standing in traffic on the highway.The driver was taken to DeKalb Community Hospital, where she was treated and released.According to Jennings, Adams had apparently walked from Maggie's Landing to DeKalb Market, which is located across the street, and was on her way back to the bar when she was hit.Assisting Jennings at the scene were THP Sergeant Billy Prater and Trooper Donnie Clark, Deputy Coroner Terry Martin, members of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department and DeKalb EMS.A memorial service for Adams will be held today at 2:00 p.m at the Smithville Church of Christ.Adams is survived by her mother and father, Anna and Peter Heelum of Smithville, father Thomas C. Adams, Jr. of Nashville, sister Michelle Fiori of New Jersey, grandmother Nancy Adams of Smithville, grandfather Sam Bradley, Jr. of Nashville and aunt and uncle Tracey Venc Hart of Nashville.Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses or to St. Jude Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
