City police have charged a Smithville man with theft after an officer allegedly pulled him over while he was driving a stolen vehicle.
Police said John Thomas Mason, 18, was pulled over for a traffic offense when it was found that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen from Warren County.
Sergeant Brad Tatrow reportedly saw Mason, driving a green Toyota Camry, make an illegal turn while not wearing a seatbelt. Tatrow allegedly stopped the vehicle and discovered that Mason had no license and no proof of insurance.
A check of the car’s plates then reportedly revealed that the vehicle was stolen. Mason was placed under arrest for theft of property.
An investigation into the matter by Detective Brandon Donnell also revealed that he had allegedly stolen a bicycle.
A complaint taken by Officer Joey Myers reporting a stolen bicycle and other items, and calls to Captain Steven Leffew reporting that a man driving a Toyota Camry had been peddling a suspicious camera led to the alleged discovery of the stolen bike as well.
A camera and gas card belonging to DeKalb EMA were reportedly found in the Camry Mason was driving.
Mason has been charged with two counts of theft. His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on Sept. 26.
Meanwhile,
Stephanie Ann Long, 28, was arrested for criminal trespassing on Aug. 3.
Police said K-9 Officer James Cornelius was dispatched to Walmart, where he was informed that Long had been notified to stay off store property, and she had signed the written notice acknowledging that.
Long was arrested for criminal trespassing after a review of a security video allegedly showed Long in the parking lot approaching customers.
Her bond was set at $1,500.
Robert Roy Atnip, 43, was cited for simple possession recently.
According to police, Sergeant Brad Tatrow was called to Green Brook Park to investigate reports of an intoxicated person. Tatrow reportedly encountered Atnip, and found him to be concealing a round pill container with several pills inside.
Ross H Stiver Jr., 60, was arrested for driving on a revoked license on Aug. 6.
Stiver was reportedly spotted entering the parking lot of a local business and getting out of a vehicle by Officer Joey Myers.
Police said Stiver was unsteady on his feet. A check allegedly revealed that Stiver’s license was revoked for a DUI.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on Sept. 25.
Joshua Lee Anderson, 21, was arrested for public intoxication on Aug. 8.
Anderson was a passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident. Corporal Travis Bryant arrived on the scene to investigate and found Anderson outside the vehicle. His speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.
His bond was set at $1,500.
Deborah Lynn France, 48, was recently cited for theft of property.
Corporal Travis Bryant responded to Rite Aid Pharmacy to investigate a possible shoplifter. Ms. France allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise in her possession.
Jessica Lynn Counts, 19, was arrested for public intoxication on Aug. 14.
Officer Will Judkins was reportedly dispatched to South Mountain Street to do a welfare check and found Counts sitting on the sidewalk. She reportedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person and was unsteady on her feet.
Her bond was set at $1,500.
Misty Dawn Brandon, 32, was arrested for theft on Aug. 22.
Brandon, an employee of Advance Auto Parts, allegedly falsified a return of a battery and kept the money.
Her bond was set at $1,500, and she will appear in court on Sept. 26.
Diane Lynn Kemp, 57, was arrested for DUI on Aug. 26.
According to city police, Corporal Travis Bryant was dispatched to Green Brook Park to investigate reports of an intoxicated person. The officer allegedly noticed Kemp had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person, and that her speech was slurred and she was unsteady on her feet.
Kemp submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tasks.
Her bond was set at $1,500 and she will appear in court on Sept. 12.
Dustin Burgess, 26, was arrested for a second offense of driving on a suspended license on Aug. 30.
Corporal Travis Bryant reportedly spotted Burgess operating a motor vehicle. Having prior knowledge of outstanding warrants against Burgess, the officer stopped him, and a check confirmed that his license was suspended in Jackson County.
Burgess has a prior conviction against him for driving on a suspended license.
his bond was set at $5,000, and he will appear in court on Sept. 12.
Mark Christopher Davenport, 23 was recently arrested by K-9 Officer James Cornelius and charged with DUI.
Davenport was reportedly operating a motor vehicle when he was stopped for speeding. Police said he had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person, was unsteady on his feet, and submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on Sept. 12.
Jessica Taylor Lane, 29, was cited for theft of property on Sept. 1.
Corporal Travis Bryant responded to Rite Aid Pharmacy, where Lane had allegedly attempted to take several items from the store without paying for them.
She will appear in court on Sept. 12.
