Grand Theft Auto
Bobby Joe Cooper, 38, of Knoxville was arrested for auto theft. Police responded to WalMart and spoke with the victim who informed the officer that he had gone to WalMart around 5:30 a.m. and ran into Bobby Cooper who he said he knows from the Sober Living Housing. Cooper wanted a ride and the victim told him to wait until he got his shopping done. When the victim walked out of WalMart he noticed his car was gone. The victim had left his keys in the ignition. The victim told the officer that he believed Cooper had taken the vehicle as he had a drug problem and had left the Sober Living where he was residing. Upon investigation, Cooper was seen on surveillance video getting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and leaving the parking lot. A warrant was taken for Cooper’s arrest and later served later in the week.
Green Thumb
Karri Margaret Jewells, 30, was cited for theft. The victim filed a report on March 15 informing the officer that a female subject believed to be Jewells took some gardening tools and clothing items from her porch and vehicle without her knowledge or consent. The victim was informed by someone that Jewells had tried to sell the items to her. Upon investigation and speaking with Jewells, a citation for theft was issued. She will be in court June 7.
Tased and Confused
Joshua Beckham, 26, of White Street was arrested for aggravated assault x2, public intoxication, and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest or search. Police responded to the residence of 319 Jackson Street in reference to a fight. The victims informed the officers that Joshua Beckham had gone to the residence while they were outside and approached them with a cooking pot over his head in an aggressive manner. Beckham would not leave the residence and a fight ensued between him and one of the victim’s. Upon the officer’s arrivals, a large crowd was gathered and had Beckham restrained. Beckham was bleeding profusely from the head and face area. He broke away and started towards police in an aggressive manner, then started towards the large crowd of people on site. Officers gave him several loud commands to stop and get on the ground but he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and would not comply with officer’s orders and continued to walk towards the crowd at which time he was tazed to gain control. EMS transported Beckham to the hospital and warrants were obtained for his arrest. He will in court June 14.
Stoned Shoplifter
Brandon Herndon, 30, of Forrest Avenue was arrested for public intoxication and cited for shoplifting. Police responded to WalMart for a possible shoplifter who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The officers made contact with Herndon and observed his speech to be slow and slurred. He was unsteady on his feet and could barely stay awake while speaking with officers. Herndon was placed under arrest for his and the public’s safety. Incident to arrest revealed him to have several items concealed on his person that he hadn’t paid for that belonged to Wal-Mart. He will be in court tomorrow.
Ninety-nine Problems
Cody W Chastain, 20, of Village Place was cited for theft of property. Chastain was found to have $99 worth of merchandise belonging to Dollar General Store in his backpack that he didn’t pay for. He will be arraigned tomorrow.
Dairy Queen Arrest
Crystal Smith, 23, of McMinnville was arrested for public intoxication, simple possession (meth) and cited for simple possession (pills). Police responded to the Dairy Queen for a report of a suspicious person possibly under the influence of drugs. Upon arrival, police observed Smith acting and talking very erratic and appeared to be under the influence of some substance. Smith was placed in custody for her safety and transported to the PD for processing. It was discovered that she had used meth earlier this day and handed officers a small metal container with a plastic baggie containing a white substance believed to be meth weighing less than a gram. Also in the metal container was a 20mg Vyvanse capsule, a 60mg Vyvanse capsule, a hydrocodone pill and half unidentifiable pill that she didn’t have a prescription for. She will be arraigned tomorrow.
Don’t Be Telling Lies
Betty Sue George, 66, of West Main Street was arrested for domestic assault. Police responded to the residence in reference to a domestic assault where the officer was informed that George did go into the back part of the home and confront the victim regarding the victim making false statements about her. George then attempted to grab or push the victim causing her to have visible scratch marks on her neck and chest. A brief struggle ensued and the victim was able to push George away. She will be in court tomorrow.
