Smithville Police made several arrests and handed out numerous citations over the past couple of week. Included in city crime:

Bryce Alexander Rowan, 21, of Crossville was arrested for DUI and cited for implied consent and simple possession x2 of methamphetamine and marijuana. 

At approximately 10:31 a.m. police responded to 303 East Broad Street in reference to a male passed out in a car. The officer made contact with Rowan who was passed out in the driver’s seat with the car engine running.  After waking Rowan the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer asked him to step out of the vehicle and upon exiting the officer noticed a green leafy substance in the seat believed to be approximately two grams of marijuana. Rowan was asked several questions and he was very belligerent and could not complete his sentences.  His speech was slurred and he kept repeating the same sentence over and over.  After searching Rowan’s car the officer found a small bag that contained three grams of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.  Rowan refused a blood test and was placed under arrest for DUI and taken to the SPD where a search warrant to take his blood for chemical testing obtained.  

Darnell Gurley, 40, of Adcock Cemetery Road was arrested for aggravated burglary and burglary.  Warrants state that Gurley did enter a residence and garage belonging to the victim at 536 E. Main St without the effective consent of the property owner.  Gurley’s belongings were found in the residence and garage and he did confirm that he was inside both structures. 

Jamie Dean Murphy, 43, of Bright Hill Road was arrested for aggravated burglary, assault, and vandalism. Warrants state Murphy did force entry into the victim’s home at Walker Drive by kicking in a locked door causing approximately $400 in damage to the door and frame. Once inside Murphy admitted to locating the victim and assaulting him by punching him in the face and about the body several times after learning of a sexual assault allegation made by his daughter against the victim. 

Natalie G Barrett, 25, of Miller Road was arrested for possession of meth with intent to sell and cited for simple possession of schedule IV. Police responded to his residence in reference to a state probation search. Found in Barrett’s purse was 2.42 grams of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine along with 23 white round pills with imprint 319 believed to be 50 mg Tramadol, to which she could not provide a prescription for, two weight scales, and $429.00 in cash.  Drugs and cash were seized and she was taken into custody without incident.

Laura Brooke Carpenter, 37, of East Main Street was cited for simple possession. Police responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a possible shoplifter. On arrival the officer made contact with Carpenter who gave the officer consent to search her backpack and purse.  Upon search, one gram of a crystal substance believed and field tested positive for meth was found inside a black case in her backpack. 

Bobby Joe Brimer, 65, of Dearman Street was arrested for aggravated assault, assault, and resisting arrest x 2. Police responded to an unwanted guest at a residence on East Main Street. Upon arrival the officer saw Brimer headed for the woods and announced himself as a police officer. The suspect turned around yelling, cussing, and advanced toward the officer with a stick in his hand and indicated that he would use it on the officer. The lawman tased Brimer. When the officer tried to cuff him he did resist by trying to pull away.  After a short time a deputy arrived at the scene and assisted the officer in cuffing him and he was placed in custody.  EMS was called to the Police Department to check Brimer due to the officer tasing him and while he was sitting in the back of the ambulance he started yelling, cussing, and threatened one of the Paramedics. An officer went to the back of the ambulance to take Brimer out and back into the PD when he attacked the officer by pushing him from the back of the ambulance.  Brimer was taken to the ground where he continued to fight the officers until they were able to subdue him and take him back into the Police Department. 

Rickey Martin, 37, of Miller Road was cited for simple possession. Police responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a suspicious person and upon asking and receiving consent to search his person, a crystal like substance believed to be methamp0hetamine weighting less than a gram was found.

Caleb McGhee, 22, of West Main Street was taken into custody for outstanding warrants and cited for simple possession.  Police arrested McGhee at his residence on the outstanding warrants and a search incident to arrest found a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on his person weighting less than a gram. 

David Harold Lattimore, 58, of Jackson Street was arrested for DUI and cited for immediate notice of an accident. Police responded to an accident that had occurred on Jackson Street where the offender left the scene and did not report it. Upon speaking with Lattimore who gave multiple stories about what had happened the officer observed him to have slurred speech, glossy eyes, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. It was discovered that Lattimore had drank a six pack of beer and taken his medication earlier.  He was asked to perform sobriety tasks to which he performed poorly and did consent to a blood alcohol test.
