The Smithville Police Department is asking for help locating a burglary suspect who was caught on video entering a vehicle at a Golf Club Lane home on Aug. 30.

Captain Steven Leffew said police are seeking not only the man shown in the video, but also a possible second suspect in several burglaries which took place late on Aug. 29 and early on Aug. 30 in the Golf Club Lane, Riley Avenue, and Love Lane area.

One of the crimes, in which the thieves target unlocked vehicles, was captured on a resident’s surveillance video on the morning of Aug. 30. Leffew said the burglars grab whatever they can get from the vehicles and then discard items of little value. After last weekend’s rash of crimes, some of the stolen goods were found in wooded areas near the scene. Leffew said similar crimes have been occurring all over town.

The captain again stressed that cars should be locked, and that purses, wallets and other valuables should not be left in plain sight.

If you can identify the man in the video above, call the Smithville Police Department's Crime Stoppers at 615-464-6046 or contact Lieutenant Matt Holmes at 615- 597- 8210.
