In the continuation of last week's election coverage, voters declined to reelect three incumbent school board members in last Thursday's election.
Robert D. (Danny) Parkerson, Jr. was elected to the First District seat. Parkerson bested Matthew Boss 351 votes to 181. to replace John David Foutch, who did not seek another term. Parkerson carried all three precincts, and took 109 early votes/absentees, while Boss had 51. In Alexandria Parkerson won 191-94. He took Edgar Evins State Park 9-6; and Temperance Hall 42-3.
The Second District race saw Jerry Wayne Johnson defeat incumbent Charles Robinson 345 votes to 283. Johnson received more early votes/absentees (152-97). He carried the Dowelltown precinct 69-57 and Snow Hill 63-51, while Robinson carried Liberty 78-61
In the Third District, incumbent Kenny Rhody's seat was taken by challenger James W. (Jim) Beshearse, II 273 votes to 205. Johnathon Willoughby received 153 votes. In early votes/absentees, Beshearse took 198, Rhody 141, and Willoughby 105. At the Church of God precinct, Beshearse received 75, Rhody 64, and Willoughby 48.
Fourth District incumbent Billy Miller was re-elected to a second term on the school board without opposition. Miller received 596 complimentary votes.
Emitt Shaun Tubbs upset Seventh District incumbent Johnny Lattimore 293 votes to 108, while Brandon Joe Cox received 94 votes. Tubbs had 176 early votes/absentees while Lattimore received 68, and Cox 50. At the Church of Christ Annex, Tubbs took 117, Cox 44, and Lattimore 40.
Fifth District board membert W.J. (Dub) Evins, III and Sixth District Member Doug Stephens were not up for reelection this year.
Meanwhile, Smithville voters reelected Mayor Jimmy Poss to a second term in last Thursday's municipal election. Challenger Wallace Caldwell took 388 votes, while 583 voters chose Poss. Three of the four city precincts cast more ballots for Poss, and the incumbent mayor took more early votes/absentees, 417 to Caldwell's 276.
Jason Judd Murphy was re-elected to his second term as alderman, and Gayla Hendrix also took back a seat on the council. Both were unopposed. Murphy got 605 complimentary votes, while Hendrix had received 584.
The alderman's race in Dowelltown saw Brad Driver receive 80 complimentary votes, Keith Farler took 66, and Ron Griffith 65. The three candidates were all unopposed.
The new school board members, along with county commissioners, constables and other county officials, will be sworn into office at the county complex on Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. The terms of office for all newly elected officials begin September 1.
The date and time that the Smithville and Dowelltown officials will be sworn in has not yet been announced.
