Folks may be making it harder than it needs to be when time comes to renew car tags and licenses.
“I love seeing people,” said County Court Clerk Jimmy Poss, pointing out that while people are always welcome to come to the clerk’s office, there is an easier way provided you have an internet connection. “It’s called TNcountyclerk.com and there is a world of information on there.”
Poss said most tasks that people use the county clerk’s office for can be accomplished by going through the website from the comfort of their own homes. “Plate renewals, marriage licenses and look ups, game and fish licenses. There’s even a vehicle sale tax calculator on there to tell you how much tax you’ll have to pay when you purchase a vehicle. It’s amazing what you can do from home.”
Poss said people can do about anything from home with exception of things like title work.
“You can sign up for e-mail reminders to remind you every year when your tags are about to expire,” Poss said. “That’s really good for a person who has multiple vehicles. It helps from them accidentally letting their tags expire.”
Poss added that plate renewals, which can be done online, also include specialty plates.
Also a specialty item now being offered through the website are specialty marriage certificates. Poss provides newlyweds with their first certificate in office; however, for those who want something a little fancier and don’t mind paying an extra fee, there are several certificates to choose from.
“If you have someone who was recently married and you want to get them a surprise gift you can go on the website, look them up and order one of the certificates they have at the site,” Poss said.
The website is also good for business taxes although Poss said he is happy to help people navigate the sometimes confusing world of business taxes if they want to see him at the office.
“There are so many things up there, page after page,” Poss said. “I’d suggest folks go check it out. I think they will be pleasantly surprised by what they find.”
Poss noted that he usually just googles TNcountyclerk.com and then selects DeKalb County once he accesses the main website.
