Danny Poss was recognized for his service to the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department with the "Highest Attendance Award" Saturday night at an appreciation dinner for the department at the Smithville First United Methodist Christian Fellowship Center.Smithville Fire Chief Charlie Parker presented the award, telling those in attendance that Poss attended more incidents, training, and activities than any other member in 2012.Poss attended 124 out of 148 calls, while Deputy Chief Hoyte Hale attended 114 calls and Lieutenant John Poss attended 105.Meanwhile, Cody Jenkins recieved a one-year service pin, Kevin Adcock and Cory Killian were awarded two-year pins, Ronald Whitaker and Glen Lattimore were recognized for five years of service and Stephanie Wright for seven years with the department.James R. Hunt and Gary Johnson received eight-year pins, Wallace Caldwell was recognized for nine years of service, Charles Young for 14 years, William Brown for 15 years and Greg Bess was given a pin for 18 years as the department’s photographer.Several members were awarded pins for more than 20 years with the department.Anthony Wright was recognized for 21 years’ service, while John Poss received a 22-year service pin, Jeff Wright was awarded a 27-year pin, Hoyte Hale was recognized for 28 years service and Donnie Cantrell, Danny Poss and Chief Charles Parker were awarded pins for 33 years of service."We do appreciate you and commend you for everything that you do," Mayor Jimmy Poss told the firefighters."The city is proud of you. I am proud of you. You go through a lot of danger.
