BlueCross Foundation-sponsored Count It! Lock It! Drop It!™ program hosts drug collection events in DeKalb County
DeKalb County area residents can join the fight against prescription drug misuse by dropping off unused or expired medications at City Hall on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day events Saturday, Oct. 28.
The events aim to provide safe, convenient locations to dispose of opioids and other medications and to raise awareness about the potential risks of abusing prescription drugs.
WHAT: DeKalb County area residents looking to dispose of unwanted drugs can drop them off as part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Around the square in Smithville at City Hall

WHY: In 2016, a record-setting 1,631 Tennesseans died from prescription pain medication overdose, and according to the Tennessee Department of Health, 7,636,112 opioid prescriptions were written in 2016.
