Ground was broken at the location of the new rescue squad building Monday. The new facility will be built beside the current location beside Green brook Park.
The Smithville Aldermen last month voted to give the rescue squad members authorization to do the construction which is on city property. The rescue squad plans to have the building completed by the end of January using mostly volunteer labor from the members of the squad.
The new building will house all of the squad’s equipment, including the vehicles and equipment that are now in various inconvenient locations around the county. The squad currently has to pick up the equipment at the separate locations before going on a call, extending response time and headaches.
The new facility should alleviate some of the problems the squad faces with acquiring the equipment when an emergency arises.
