A 47-year-old Smithville man is charged burglary and vandalism after residents of a Sparta Highway home allegedly woke Sunday morning with him standing in their living room.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Alfred Mitchell Horn of Eagle Creek Road, Smithville, entered the residence through a window. When confronted, Horn reportedly threw a cigarette and poured a beer on the victims. Ray said Horn also used a baseball bat to break the windows of a 1998 Chevy Blazer after exiting the residence.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to the home to check out a report of possible vandalism. Witnesses told the officer that they awoke at around 8 a.m. to find Horn standing in their living room. Horn threw a cigarette at one of the witnesses, poured a beer on them, and then exited out of a window that he had pushed in from the outside. After leaving the home, Horn picked up a baseball bat and busted five windows out of a Chevy Blazer, causing damage estimated at $1,500.
Horn faces charges of aggravated burglary and vandalism over $1,000. His bond is $11,000 and his court date is June 29.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Philando Darnell Fullilove of Alexandria was arrested on a sealed indictment on June 6.
He is charged with two counts of sale and delivery of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine). Fullilove was among more than 40people indicted after an undercover investigation by the sheriff’s department.
His bond is $50,000, and he will be arraigned on June 20.
Curtis Pitner Shelton, Sr., 60, of Liberty was charged with driving under the influence and cited for driving on a revoked license on June 5.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to the area of Salem Cemetery due to a report of a possible DUI. Upon arrival, the officer allegedly found Shelton slumped over the bed of his pickup truck. The officer noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage about Shelton’s person, and that he was very unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. Shelton submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
His bond is $1,500 and his court date is June 22.
Jeffery Allen Flatt, 49, of Baxter was charged with driving under the influence and two counts of reckless endangerment on June 6.
The sheriff said a deputy dispatched to Austin Bottom Road for a wreck with no injury spoke with Flatt, who said he had been driving the vehicle involved. Flatt reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, his speech was slurred, and he was unsteady on his feet. Flatt performed poorly on all field sobriety tasks, and submitted to a blood test.
Flatt was reportedly transporting his two nephews in the vehicle, placing them in imminent danger of bodily injury.
His bond is $8,500 and his court date is June 29.
Robert Arthur Lebel, 30, of Cookeville has been charged with theft of property over $1,000.
Ray said that on or about July 31, 2015, Lebel stole a CF Martin guitar valued at $1,300 and sold it at a business in Cookeville for $500. The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective. Although the charge was filed in 2015, authorities only recently found Lebel and placed him under arrest.
His bond is $30,000 and he will appear in court on June 22.
Michael Davis Arrington, 50, of Murfreesboro was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, and assault, as well as being cited for violation of the implied consent law for refusing to submit to a blood test on June 10.
The sheriff said a deputy was dispatched to the area of the scenic overlook on Cookeville Highway to investigate reports of a fight on the side of the road. The caller gave a description of a black SUV and two men.
The deputy spotted the vehicle at Captain’s Point Road and pulled it over. He found the driver, Arrington, to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his person. Two passengers, a seven-year-old child and another man, were in the vehicle.
The other man, who was in the backseat, was reportedly slumped over and holding his side. He allegedly told the officer that he and Arrington had gotten into an argument while driving down the road, when Arrington stopped the SUV, forced the victim out, and then punched him on the left side of his abdomen. The victim complained of internal injuries and was taken by DeKalb EMS to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital.
The deputy noticed that Arrington’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot and his speech was slow and slurred. Arrington performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and was placed under arrest. Due to Arrington’s state of intoxication, he was charged with reckless endangerment for placing the child in imminent danger of bodily harm.
His bond is $10,500 and his court date is June 29.
Barry Wayne Hobbs, 48, of Mount Juliet was charged with driving under the influence on June 11.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to Nashville Highway near Alexandria due to single-vehicle non-injury traffic accident. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the driver, Hobbs, and noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. His eyes were glossy and bloodshot and his speech was slow and slurred. Hobbs was also very unsteady on his feet. Hobbs performed poorly on field sobriety tasks and was placed under arrest.
His bond is $1,500 and his court date is June 29.
