A 48-year-old local man charged along with three others in the theft of more than $100,000 in copper and brass from Federal Mogul last year entered a guilty plea to theft of property over $10,000 in DeKalb County Criminal Court Monday.
Judge Gary McKenzie gave Martin Riley III a five-year sentence, to run concurrently with another sentence he is already serving. He will be eligible for probation after serving 35 percent of the sentence, was given jail credit from October 2013, and must make restitution.
In February, 57-year-old Billy Joe Rigsby and Corey Dickens, 30, were sentenced in connection with the same thefts. Rigsby pled guilty to theft over $60,000, and Dickens pled guilty to theft over $10,000.
Rigsby was given a 10-year sentence to serve at least 30 percent before he is eligible for parole. He was given jail credit from August 2013 to February 2014. Dickens got a five-year sentence, and was given jail credit from August 2013 to February 2014. Dickens and Rigsby were ordered to make restitution jointly and severally to Federal Mogul in the amount of $109,771.
City police said the three men entered the factory several times between December 2012 and August 2013 after the second shift ended and no one else was in the building. They reportedly breached the fence and entered the facility through an unlocked door at the back of the building and loaded carts with bags of copper and pieces of brass. The y then reportedly sold the metal to a Warren County recycler.
