The Rotary Club of Sparta learned about veteran job and educational opportunities in White County in a program presented by Anthony Scionti, Veteran’s Employment Representative. Bill Loos, past president, invited Mr. Scionti, to speak at a luncheon meeting at the Sparta Country Club.
“My responsibility is to provide ‘quality job opportunities’ for all veterans and local employers,” Mr. Scionti said. “The average time before a veteran seeks services from the State of Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development is about two years separation from the military.”
The American Job Center provides training to veterans on how to write a resume, dress for success, how to interview, job opportunities, and more. Additionally, before an interview takes place, Mr. Scionti helps the veteran to find clothing and shoes donated by local businesses and charities.
Scionti continues, “There are no fees for a hiring employer or employee. All services are free.”
Rotary Club learned there is approximately 2.7% unemployment rate in White and Putnam Counties and there are more jobs than applicants. Connecting an employer to qualified veterans is an important service.
Veteran’s employment center also connects High School students to employers through an internship program where the students earn money and learn to be responsible.
If you are a veteran who would like to learn more about the services provided, contact Mr. Scionti at the American Job Center in Cookeville, TN by calling 931.520.9523.
