Savvy Scrubs the place to go for comfortable work wear
BizInc Savvy Scrubs owner
Steve Warner photo Pam Ball's Savvy Scrubs & More has everything a health professional can dream of plus a lot of quality children's clothes and shoes. Her newest line is Grey's Anatomy.

I’ve always liked scrubs, not the TV show but the garments.

Although not a medical professional in any way, I somehow feel smarter when I wear them. They are about the most comfortable work garment any profession can have I believe. I wear them as pajamas, not to work or around town. Why can’t we all have some sort of practical get-up like this to go to work in? I know they wouldn’t work for, say, the construction industry but they would be plenty practical for a newspaper reporter in my opinion.

Well, my visit to a local business this week at least provided me with a new location to buy sleeping wear.

When I mentioned to my sister and brother-in-law who works as a physical therapist where he could find a great place to find scrubs, he had already purchased his last set there so apparently the word is out at least in McMinnville about the location.

They have the most well-stocked inventory of any store I’ve been to that sells scrubs in several different lines. They recently added a line even I recognized the name of - “Grey’s Anatomy.” Other brands they stock are Cherokee, Landau, Urbane Koi, med Couture and more.

“I just love our location here uptown,” said owner Pam Ball, who was stocking some merchandise Friday. Pam told me cafeteria workers also get to wear scrubs to work, those lucky folks. I wonder what it would take to get scrubs the official work-wear for other non-traditional scrub-wearing workers. If anyone starts a petition, sign me up.

Helping Ball with the workload here in Smithville are Debbie Reeder and Kimberly – who didn’t want me to use her last name. I don’t think she was on the run from the law or anything, it’s just that some folks don’t like to be in the newspaper. I have to convince some of my business owners to actually get in the picture I’m taking sometimes. It’s always nice to see who you’re referring to. I can understand when your hair is sticking straight up like the woman from last week but most of us don’t look as bad as we think when it is in print. I might be the exception, never having had a good driver’s license photo in my life. I blame the camera.

Saint Thomas Hospital employees get 20 percent off their purchases at Savvy Scrubs here in town so there’s that.

The “and more” of Savvy Scrubs includes children’s clothes from  MudPie and Under Armour clothing and shoes. The store is in the process of a 30 percent off winter clothing sale and it’s not too late to take advantage for this year. I am hoping it stays warm so it’s likely not to.

Ball also runs a business called PTS or Professional Testing Services from the same location.

PTS does drug and alcohol screenings for business or individuals and also DNA testing. I wondered how long it took to do a DNA test and it’s only about two weeks so that seems reasonable.

For more information on PTS, you can contact Ball at 615 597-8378 or email to Professional TestingServices@yahoo.com.

Maybe I’ll just find some scrubs and start wearing them to work. Perhaps I can be a trendsetter. I’m not much of a break from the norms of society person but when it comes to comfort it might be worth it.
