The 2012-13 school year is just around the corner, with registration for all students to be held on Aug. 2, and the annual education celebration will be held on Aug. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m.The first full day of classes falls on Aug. 6.Pre-K registration for DeKalb County Schools is scheduled for July 16 from 7:45-11 a.m. at Smithville Elementary School, and from 1-3 p.m. at DeKalb West School.Parents should bring the following items for their children:*Original Certificate of Birth;*Physical Examination within the last six months;*Current Certification of Immunization*Proof of Income for All Household Members;Parents are encouraged to register all students who will be four years old on or before Sept. 30.Registration for students new to DeKalb County schools in grades 9-12 will be held July 26-27 from 8 a.m.-2:p.m.Students should bring the following items to register:*Birth Certificate*Immunizations*Proof of Residence*Transcript/grades from previous school if possibleA system-wide professional development day for teachers is scheduled for July 30 at DCHS from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.All teachers will then report to their individual schools on July 31 and Aug. 1 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.Registration for all students will be on Aug. 2., which will be an abbreviated school day, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 9:30 a.m.The annual education celebration will be held on Aug. 3 on the public square.Aug. 3 will also be an administrative day for teachers only.The first full day of school will be Aug. 6.School will not be in session on Labor Day, September 3, and will be closed for fall break from Oct. 15-26.Schools will be dismissed for Thanksgiving Nov. 21-23.Dec. 19 will be an abbreviated day, and winter break students will not return until winter break ends on Jan. 3. Schools will close for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Jan. 21, and for President's Day, Feb. 18.Students will enjoy spring break March 25-29School will be out for students on May 23, but teachers must attend for an administrative day.The last day of school will be on May 24, an abbreviated day on which report cards will be sent home.Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Oct. 9 and March 12 at DCHS from 3-6 p.m., from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 11 and March 14 at DeKalb Middle, Northside Elementary, Smithville Elementary, and DeKalb West School.Report cards will be sent home from DCHS on Oct. 8, and from all other schools on Oct. 9, from all schools on Jan. 8, from DCHS on March 11, and from all other schools on March 12.AYP-EOC/Gateway Testing at DCHS will take place Dec. 4-6 and May 7-9.Make-up AYP-EOC/Gateway tests will be offered Dec. 7 and May 10.The 11th grade will take ACT tests on be March 19.Writing Assessment for grades 5, 8 and eleven will be taken on Feb. 5., with a make-up test scheduled for Feb. 6.Elementary students will be TCAP tested April 22-May 3.Teachers and paraprofessionals will attend professional development/ instructional days from 8 a.m.-3p.m. on Oct. 12 and Jan. 2. Students will not attend school on those days.The 2012-13 school year will encompass 180 days, with 21 school days in August, 19 in September, 13 in October, 19 in November, and 13 in December.For the second half of the school year, students will attend 21 days in January, 19 days in February, 16 days in March, 22 days in April, and 17 days in May.
