Sealed indictment served for prescription fraud

Ten people have been served with sealed indictments.

 

Ashley Hope Morgan, 27, was taken into custody by the sheriff’s department on April 14. Morgan was one of eleven people named in sealed indictments by the Grand Jury on April 6.

 

According to the indictment, Morgan allegedly unlawfully obtained or attempted to obtain, on or about June 14, 2014, a prescription from a healthcare provider, and failed to disclose to that healthcare provider that she had received a prescription for a controlled substance of similar therapeutic use from another healthcare provider within the previous 30 days. She is accused of using a TennCare to obtain the drugs, constituting the offense of TennCare Fraud. Her bond was set at $10,000.

 

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, the following were named in the indictments.

 

Molly Sue Lawrence, 27: theft under $500 and six counts of forgery; and four counts of forgery. Her bonds total $25,000.

 

Max Arnold Teeples, 53, of Baxter: manufacturing marijuana. His bond was set at $20,000.

 

Melinda Beth Murphy, 29: theft under $500 and six counts of forgery. Her bond was set at $15,000.

 

Garth Layne Cantrell, 33, of Pine Grove Road Smithville: theft under $500. His bond was set at $5,000.

 

Horace Laster, Jr., 66: Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. His bond was set at $10,000.

 

Sabra Maurine Bussell, 53: Fraudulent insurance claim. Her bond was set at $20,000.

 

Keith Dewey Higgins, 53, of McMinnville: Aggravated burglary, forgery, and theft of property under $500. His bond was set at $55,000.

 

April Lynn Anderson, 31: Worthless check over $10,000. Her bond was set at $40,000.

 

In other news from the sheriff, Julie Elaine Moore, 34, was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution on April 16.

 

The sheriff said that Moore was taken into custody on a violation of probation warrant. Before she entered the jail, correctional officers reportedly asked Moore if she had anything on her person that might be illegal. She replied "no." During a search of her person, a female correctional officer found a plastic bag in Moore's body cavity.

 

Moore was asked to remove the bag and hand it over to the female officer. Moore complied. Inside the bag was one yellow round pill believed to be a four milligram Dilaudid, which is a schedule II drug; a hypodermic needle; and a cut straw containing a powdery residue substance.

 

Moore's bond was set at $5,500 on the contraband charge, and she is being held without bond for the violation of probation warrant. She will appear in court on April 23.

 

Kathy Jo Massengail, 45 was charged with a third offense of driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license, and was cited for violation of the financial responsibility law and immediate notice of an accident (not reporting a wreck) on April 7.

 

The sheriff Ray said that Massengail, was involved in a crash, and then left the scene of the accident, but was later located on Jefferson Road. The arresting officer spoke with Massengail, who reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on her person and bloodshot eyes.

 

Massengail allegedly admitted that she had been drinking at the time of the wreck, and performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. She also submitted to a blood test. A computer check confirmed that her driver's license was revoked due to prior DUI offenses.

 

Her bond totals $6,000 and she will appear in court on June 25.

 

David Lee Bean, 31, of Sparta was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence on April 12. He was also cited for violation of the financial responsibility law and failure to maintain his lane of travel.

 

The sheriff said a deputy received a call about a wreck on Highway 70 east at Sligo bridge, and found a 1999 Saturn in a ditch. He reportedly spoke to the driver, Bean, who said he had been on his way to get his wife.

 

Bean's speech was allegedly slurred, and he was unsteady on his feet. He performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and submitted to a blood alcohol test. Bean was placed under arrest.

 

His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on May 14.

 

Patricia Ann Butcher, 39, was charged with driving under the influence on April 19, and was cited for violation of the child restraint device law and reckless endangerment for having a child in her vehicle while intoxicated.

 

Ray said that a deputy received a call in reference to an intoxicated woman having left a residence on Agee Road in a blue Blazer. She was reported to have had a small child with her.

 

The officer reportedly spotted the automobile parked at DeKalb Market, and Butcher was found to be the driver. The deputy allegedly spoke with Butcher and noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. Ray said Butcher performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and was placed under arrest and taken to the hospital for a blood test. She was then transported to the jail for booking.

 

Her bond was set at $1,500, and she appear in court on May 14.

 

Joel Acuna, Sr., 47, was charged with domestic assault on April 7.

 

Ray said that Acuna attacked his wife because she did not want to talk about their marriage. Acuna allegedly grabbed the victim by the head when she tried to get away from him, pulling her hair and arms.

 

The woman reportedly bit Acuna's right index finger trying to break free. Acuna was placed under arrest.

 

His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on April 16.

 

Richard Neal Meyers, 42, was charged with domestic assault on April 13. Ray said a deputy responding to Hickory Place in reference to a domestic assault spoke with Meyers, who told the officer that he and his daughter had been involved in an argument, after which she ran to a friend's house on Mountain View Drive.

 

The deputy located her, and she allegedly reported that her father had slapped her twice, causing a cut on her lip. Meyers then reportedly admitted to the officer that he had slapped his daughter, and he was placed under arrest.

 

His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on May 7.

 

William Stephen Zaderiko, 46, has been charged with filing a false report and theft of property over $1,000.

 

The sheriff said that Zaderiko was questioned about a 2013 Hustler zero turn lawn mower which he had in his possession on April 8. Zaderiko allegedly said that he had purchased the mower from an auction company in Cookeville. An investigation reportedly revealed that Zaderiko had lied to officers.

 

During subsequent questioning, Zaderiko allegedly admitted to having lied about where he obtained the mower, saying he received it from his cousin who resides in Benton, Kentucky. Ray said Zaderiko further admitted to having sold the lawn mower to another person for $7,500. Officers learned that the lawn mower had been stolen in Benton, Kentucky on July 18, 2014, and that the serial number had been removed.

 

Zaderiko allegedly said he lied about the lawn mower because he did not want to get his cousin in trouble. The case was investigated by a sheriff's department detective. The lawn mower has been recovered.

 

His bonds total $10,000, and he will appear in court on April 23.

 

Cecil McKinley Ketchum, 40, was charged with violation of bond conditions on April 11.

 

Ray said that Ketchum intentionally and knowingly violated an order of bond conditions by being inside the same residence as the person who had those bond conditions brought against him. Ketchum said he knew he was not supposed to be around this person. The bond conditions were filed on March 28, 2014. His bond was set at $5,000.
