Sex offender arrested for hanging around schoolyard

A Smithville man is facing charges of violating the sex-offender law after being found hanging around a schoolyard.The Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department arrested 35-year-old James Allen Hesson on Aug. 31 and charged him with violation of the sex-offender law. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Hesson violated the sex-offender law by being on school property where children are present.Hesson was apparently advised by staff members to leave the school grounds, but was seen a short time later in the back yard of a property adjoining DeKalb County High School watching children playing.The sheriff said Hesson is aware that he is not allowed to be near school property.This occurred while an after-school sports event was going on at just after 6 p.m.His bond is set at $50,000, and he will be in court on Sept. 13.Meanwhile, 31-year-old Danny Ray Murphy was arrested and charged with initiation of a process intended to result in the manufacture of meth on Aug. 30.Deputies and a drug detective who went to an Evins Mill Road to execute a warrant saw three or four people run into the woods.Ray said Murphy eventually came out of the field and while the drug detective was speaking with him it was noticed that smoke was coming from the field.Upon closer inspection of the area, authorities allegedly found the makings of a meth lab.The sheriff said that two one-pot bottles and numerous other components, along with empty Mucinex blister packs were found.When Murphy’s car was searched, an empty Draino can and empty box of Mucinex D was found in the trunk. The lot numbers on the empty box and empty blister packs were the same.His bond is set at 50,000, and he will be in court on Sept. 13.Michael Brandon Red-mon, 28, of McMinnville was arrested on Sept. 1 and charged with aggravated burglary and violation of an order of protection.Ray said that Redmon entered the residence on McMinnville Highway on Aug. 26 with the intent to commit a theft and assault.Redmon reportedly broke the glass out of a door, then kicked the door open to gain entry to the home.
