The sheriff’s department arrested a convicted sex offender who was allegedly found to be living in a vehicle parked near a children’s recreational center on Oct. 27.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Charles Henry Ward, 58, faces charges of violating sex offender registry laws after deputies found him living in his vehicle in the parking lot of a church on Old Snow Hill Road. Ray said Ward was found guilty of committing the offense of second-degree sexual assault in Texas in December 1994.
Ward reportedly registered in DeKalb County on March 28, 2014. He appeared in General Sessions Court on Nov. 6, where Judge Bratten Cook, II revoked his bond. He is set to appear in court again on Dec. 4.
Meanwhile, 40-year-old Autumn Danielle White was charged on Nov. 6 with driving on suspended license and evading arrest in May.
The sheriff said a deputy saw a white four-door car, driven by White sitting at the intersection of Smith Fork Road and the Alexandria to Dismal Road on May 30. Having prior knowledge that White's license was suspended, the deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, but White allegedly drove away.
After following the vehicle for several miles, he terminated the pursuit at Hurricane Creek Road in Cannon County. A computer check reportedly confirmed that White's license had been suspended for violation of the implied consent law, and that she has outstanding warrants from Rutherford County.
She was located and taken into custody Nov. 6 on these charges as well as a Circuit Court violation of probation and three failure to appear offenses.
Her bond totals $22,500 on all the charges except the violation of probation, on which she is being held without bond. She will appear in court on Dec. 4.
David Melvin Speake, 20, was charged with criminal impersonation on Nov. 9. Ray said a deputy was serving warrants against Speake from another county, and Speake identified himself as 18-year-old David Serrano.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court Dec. 4.
Lance Russell Miller, 39, was charged with public intoxication on Nov. 13.
Ray said a deputy received a call from a resident on Briarwood Court reporting that a man had come to the home and was banging on the door late at night, alarming the family inside the residence. When confronted by one of the residents, Miller allegedly fled on foot down the street.
The officer located Miller, and he reportedly admitted to having taken cocaine earlier in the day. He allegedly unaware of his surroundings and was dazed and fidgety.
His bond was set at $5,000 and he will appear in court on Dec. 18.
