Several arrests were made over the past week by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Included in county crime:

Matthew Seth Wade, 31, is charged with public intoxication. Lawmen were called to investigate a man standing in the road, yelling and cursing at passing cars. When the deputy arrived he found Wade, standing in the road and ordered him to get back on his property. At that point, Wade reportedly began cursing at the deputy, telling him to “come get him” and refusing to get back in his yard.

“The deputy asked him how much he had had to drink,” Sheriff Patrick Ray revealed. “Wade responded ‘way too much’.”

Wade was arrested on the spot for public intoxication.

Tonya Sue Sparks of Cookeville is charged with criminal impersonation. Deputies encountered her when they went to Johnson Town Road to investigate a suspicious vehicle. She claimed her name was Kim Smith but a check revealed she was Tonya Sue Sparks who was wanted on outstanding warrants in Overton County.

Alex A. Nandez, 24, is charged with DUI. He was found sleeping in a parking lot inside his vehicle. When he was awakened by the deputy he smelled of alcohol and refused to submit to any field sobriety tests.

Brandon K. Hill, 36, of Northpoint, Ala., is charged with fourth-offense driving on a revoked license. He was involved in a wreck on Highway 56. When the deputy checked his license he discovered Hill had three prior driving on a revoked license convictions.

Mayra M. Byars, 47, is charged with bringing contraband into the county jail. Byars was taken into custody for violation of probation and brought to the jail. During a search of her purse jailers found a pill believed to be alprazolam. Byars claimed it was fluid pill.

Clint Lee Shehane, 32, and Cody Leon Davenport, 36, are charged with vandalism. They are accused of destroying a mattress inside their cell at DeKalb County Jail.

Ronald B. Gutierrez, 21, was cited for simple possession of marijuana and driving on a suspended license. The suspect reportedly blew by the deputy on Sparta Highway at a high rate of speed. When he was pulled over the deputy found 1.3 grams of marijuana and that he was driving without a license.

Anthony Charles South, 27, is charged with vandalism. Lawmen were called by a female who said South had kicked her car. The deputy found damage to the door and noticed South’s shoe print matched the impression on the door.

Nathaniel D. Tippens, 26, is charged with vandalism. The sheriff said his charges come from him punching another inmate at DeKalb County Jail in the face several times during an altercation in the jail annex.

Bobby Lee Anderson, 41, of Dowelltown is charged with possession of drugs. He was charged after lawmen found three grams of suspected methamphetamine inside is mini-storage unit. He admitted the drugs belonged to him.
