Smithville pauses for prayer

Smithville joined with the rest of America Thursday, pausing for prayer at noon, the local assembly held under a shade tree in front of the courthouse.

“May we walk, talk and live under the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit,” prayed Issac Gray of Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He asked God’s anointing in helping to change Smithville and DeKalb County for the better. “I pray that we would be a changed people, a changed community.”

Chris Moore of Smithville Church of God prayed for divine help for community leaders.

“I pray you give these men and women an anointing and wisdom to make decisions,” he prayed, calling the city leaders by name.

He also prayed that those in the public make the right decisions. “This is home,” Moore prayed. “Help us as citizens to do the right thing.”
Nathan Thomason of Outreach Baptist Church prayed for the churches.

“Draw our churches together,” he prayed. “May we make an impact on our culture, not our culture make an impact on our churches.”

John Carpenter of First United Methodist Church prayed for our nation.

“May our leaders’ decisions always be based on your design,” he prayed of the nation’s leaders.

Chad Ramsey of First Baptist Church asked that the state leaders seek God’s guidance in all things.

“I pray that our leaders seek your will,” he prayed, noting that there are many who need to be reached in our home state. “The mission field is right here.”
