Smithville’s first (legal) retail liquor store is now open. Smithville Discount Wine & Spirits, located in the former Clair’s Consignment building on Highway 70 East, opened the doors Saturday morning and celebrated with a ribbon cutting. Owner Jim Smith, a DeKalb County resident, submitted the first application to sell spirits in the city in April, and was approved by Smithville aldermen for a “Certificate of Compliance in May. The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission then signed off on the paperwork, clearing the way for the opening of the store.
