With the deadline to qualify for the races expiring Thursday, both of DeKalb county’s incumbent state representatives will face opposition in their bids to be re-elected to new two-year terms this election season. Incumbent State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver of Lancaster will have no challenger for the 40th District Republican nomination in the Republican primary race on Aug. 4, but will face a Democrat in the general election on Nov. 8. Gayla Colvert Hendrix of Smithville and Teresa Marion of Smith County will vie for the Democratic nomination for the 40th district, representing Smith, Trousdale and part of DeKalb and Sumner Counties in the democratic primary on Aug. 4.
