DeKalb High School valedictorian Allison Maynard and salutatorian Marshal Evins are getting high praise from Capitol Hill. Their academic achievements at the top of their class have earned them a joint resolution of recognition from the state senate.

“WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to pay tribute to those students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom,” the resolution, introduced by State Senator Mark Pody begins.

The resolution is expected to be signed in the near future by the governor and officially conferred. It specifically cites both students for their accomplishments, including that of Maynard who, along with her high gradepoint average, found time to be active in the Beta Club, Science, Literature and Spanish clubs and in the Future Business Leaders of America. She has also served as captain of the cheerleading team and played on the softball team.

Her display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for her future success,” the resolution reads. She is the daughter of Stacey Smith and Alan Maynard.

Joining her in the honor is Evins who was also praised in the resolution for his academic success. He was also cited for his work in the Beta Club and in the Future Business Leaders of America. His atheletic endeavors include basketball and golf which he played throughout high school.

“Mr. Evins’ dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of the respect, admiration, and commendation of the members of this General Assembly,” the resolution reads. Evins is the son of Dub and Edie Beth Evins.
