A Smithville man is charged with the June 29 rape of a mentally disabled woman.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Brandon Dean Steakley, 40, unlawfully sexually penetrated the woman without her consent. He allegedly had reason to believe that his victim was mentally defective.
His bond is $75,000, and his court date is Aug. 10.
Meanwhile, Dustin O’Brian Cash, 32, charged with violation of the sex offender law and criminal impersonation, as well as being cited for possession of drug paraphernalia on July 26.
The sheriff said that a detective and deputy were called to a residence on Toad Road due to a possible altercation, and spoke to a woman whom told them that Cash had stolen her cell phone and had gone to another address on Toad Road. The deputy went to that residence and found Cash, but he reportedly identified himself as Brian Nash, and gave conflicting dates of his birth.
An investigation revealed that his real name is Dustin O’Brian Cash, and that he is a registered sex offender in Davidson County with a conviction date of May 31, 2014. Cash reportedly told officers that DeKalb County has been his home for approximately a month, but he had not registered as a sex offender here. Cash was taken into custody for criminal impersonation, and the arresting officer allegedly found a glass pipe and a hypodermic needle on him.
His bond is $13,500. His court date on the sex offender violation is Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 is his date for the criminal impersonation and drug paraphernalia offenses.
Zachary Layne Bennett, 24, of Liberty was charged with driving under the influence and cited for simple possession of a Schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia on July 25.
Ray said a deputy and detective dispatched to the intersection of Old Liberty Road and Upper Helton Road where a vehicle had struck a fence spoke with Bennett, the driver of the vehicle. He allegedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person, his speech was slurred and his eyes were red and watery.
Bennett reportedly admitted to having consumed four 12-ounce beers and one 25-ounce beer. He submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. The sheriff said that 4.4 grams of marijuana and two glass pipes were found during a search of Bennett’s vehicle.
His bond is $1,500, and his court date is Aug. 10.
Racheal Lynn Bell, 29, of Nashville was charged with public intoxication on July 29.
The sheriff said that while at Pates Ford Marina a deputy found Bell passed out in a utility vehicle. When she was awakened, Bell was reportedly observed to be very unsteady on her feet. Her speech was allegedly slurred, and she had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. Bell also appeared to be very disoriented.
Her bond is $1,500, and her court date is Aug. 17.
Kathleen Ann Schwartz, 21, of Carthage was charged with public intoxication on July 30.
Ray said a deputy was called to Pates Ford Marina, where a woman was seen walking along the road who appeared to be intoxicated. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the woman, Schwartz. She reportedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person and her eyes were allegedly red and watery. Her speech was slurred and she was unsteady on her feet. Schwartz submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
Her bond is $1,500, and her court date is Aug. 17.
Charles Franklin Kilgore, II, 47, of Joelton was charged with public intoxication on July 30.
Sheriff Ray said that while at Pates Ford Marina responding to another complaint, a deputy saw Kilgore passed out on the boat ramp. He was roused and found to be very unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person.
His bond is $1,500, and his court date is Aug. 17.
