Store robbed with rifle

A lone man with a rifle reportedly robbed Jewel's Market on South Congress Boulevard in Smithville Friday morning.

 

City police said the robber came into the store about 9:45 a.m., rifle in hand. He was reportedly wearing a mask. He demanded money that the clerk give him the money from the register. The store employee reportedly gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash.

 

The thief then fled in a white SUV, traveling south on Highway 56. No one was injured in the incident.

 

City police continue to investigate. No arrests have been made as of press time.
