Police saved a man from being run over as he was dancing in the street, later charging him with disorderly conduct for his hazardous selection of dance floors.
The man, Nathan Joseph Wilbert, 38, is charged with disorderly conduct and resisting stop.
The incident began when Smithville police started receiving calls about a man dancing in the road and yelling at passing cars on West Broad Street. “He was angry and belligerent and throwing his arms up in the air,” the police report reads.
Officers tried to get him out of traffic but saw a sharp black object in his hands. “He was instructed multiple times to drop the object,” the report reads. “He then clinched the metal object in his hand, held it like a knife and started yelling more.”
Police tried to taze Wilbert but missed. He then ran into traffic. “One of the officers grabbed him by his waist to protect him from getting hit by an oncoming car and both fell to the ground,” the report revealed.
Wilbert was taken into custody and it was discovered the object he had been clutching was a metal paint scraper. The police officer who saved him from getting hit suffered abrasions to his knee.
