A Smithville man was seriously injured Tuesday evening when his car crashed and overturned on Manchester Highway after colliding with another vehicle.
The critically injured victim, Marty Tallent, 46, was airlifted from the scene of the accident at sunset Tuesday after LifeForce helicopter made its landing in the middle of the highway near the site of the two vehicle wreck.
Reports were that Tallent suffered a severe arm injury.
According to the highway patrol, Tallent was driving an Oldsmobile Alero, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Highway 55, heading toward McMinnville.
As he approached the highway’s intersection with Old Well Road, his speeding vehicle slammed into the rear of
a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Ricky Newby, 49.
The Tallent vehicle went airborne after striking the pickup and rolled several times before coming to rest on its top in the eastbound lanes.
Newby and his passenger, Tammy Newby, 50, escaped serious injury.
