The state TCAP test results are in, and DeKalb county students performed admirably in most fields.Students were tested in reading, math, science and social studies, and put in a good showing in most categories, with progress being shown over last year by the majority of students divided by grade.DeKalb third graders showed a 2.596 percent growth in reading over last year, with 36.752 percent scoring proficient or advanced. Third grade math results show a 7.227 percent growth rate over last year, with 51.489 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced, while the science results for third graders reveal a 1.519 percent growth over last year, with 63.404 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.Third grade social studies testing shows that 84.12 percent of students are proficient or advanced, with a 4.215 percent growth rate over last year.Fourth grade students registered a 9.162 percent growth rate over last year in reading, and 48.751 percent scored proficient or advanced on the tests.In fourth grade math testing, 38.462 percent of students scored proficient or advanced.The fourth grade enjoyed a 4.964 percent improvement in math over last year, and a 3.033 percent improvement in science, with 47.368 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.Fourth grade social studies scores took a slight dip from last year’s results, with an impressive 81.781 percent of fourth graders testing proficient or advanced, but with a growth rate of -4.787 compared to last year.Fifth grade results reveal negative growth in two areas compared to last year’s numbers, with science results coming in at -.856 and social studies figuring in at a whopping -6.766 rate compared to the previous year.An impressive 60.337 percent of fifth grade students scored proficient or advanced in science, however, and an even more astonishing 88.208 percent scored proficient or advanced in social studies.Math results for the fifth grade show a 13.062 percent growth rate over last year, and 44.34 percent of students tested scored proficient or advanced, while fifth grade reading results show 62.264 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced, with a .59 growth rate since last year.Sixth grade reading scores reveal an 11.065 percent growth rate over last year, with 64.53 percent of sixth graders scoring proficient or advanced, and math scores for the sixth grade show that 31.624 percent of students tested scored proficient or advanced, with a 4.173 percent growth rate over last year.Sixth grade science results show a growth rate of 16.842 percent, with 68.803 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced, and social studies scores reveal a 10.973 percent growth rate and 84.188 percent testing proficient or advanced.Seventh grade students’ reading scores reveal a 2.958 percent growth rate since last year, with 44.186 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced, while math scores for seventh grade students show 35.981 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced, and a growth rate of 10.653 percent over last year.Science results for the seventh grade show a 15.822 percent growth rate, and 68.244 percent of students testing proficient or advanced, and seventh grade social studies numbers reveal a -1.649 percent growth rate, but 82.243 percent of students scored proficient or advanced in the category.Scores for the eighth grade show a 6.752 percent growth rate in reading, 4.766 percent in math, 5.39 percent in science, and a 10.413 percent growth rate in social studies since last year’s tests.Eighth grade students scored proficient or advanced percentages of 51.528 in reading, 31.004 in math, 75.546 in science, and 83.406 percent of eighth graders scored proficient or advanced in social studies.
