A man who threatened officers after he was taken to the emergency room has been charged with felony assault.
The man, Michael Joseph Lee, 27, is charged with aggravated assault, assault, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. The top charge of aggravated assault carries three to six years in prison.
His charges come after police responded to a residence to investigate a domestic incident. They found a female with evidence that she had been choked and that Lee was the primary aggressor. In the state of Tennessee, it is considered a felony to choke someone. Police also found a glass pipe on Lee when they took him into custody on the domestic charge, along with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
A short time later, Lee was taken to the hospital emergency room where he became loud and threatening.
“He created an offensive condition by using foul language with a loud voice in presence of hospital staff as well as other patients,” the police report revealed, noting Lee was warned to settle down on several occasions but became even more belligerent. “He implied that having felony charges gave him more reason to ‘kill more of y'all’.” Police pointed out the statement was made while talking to officers, suggesting the threat was pointed at them.
