Three involved in Monday night crash
2

Three people were involved in a two vehicle crash Monday night at the intersection of Whorton Springs and Jacob Pillar Road in Smithville.

Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said that a 17 year-old Smithville boy was traveling west on Whorton Springs Road in a 2012 Honda Insight when he failed to stop at the intersection and crossed into the path of a northbound 2017 Nissan Rogue driven by 45 year old Cindy Washer of Smithville. A 15 year-old boy was a passenger with the 17 year-old.

According to Trooper Johnson, the Rogue struck the Honda in the center of the driver side forcing the Honda off the road into a field. Washer’s vehicle then went off the road and struck a utility pole, causing the pole to break.

Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department Extrication and Rescue Team were summoned to the scene to extricate Washer who was trapped in her vehicle. She and the 17 year-old boy were taken by DeKalb EMS to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. The other boy apparently was not injured.

Trooper Johnson said charges or citations are pending against the 17 year-old driver. The names of the teens were not released because they are minors.
