Three sentenced for theft in criminal court

Judge David Patterson sentenced three people convicted of local burglaries and thefts last week in DeKalb County Criminal Court.
Clayton Green, 30, and Rachel Green, 29, were both sentenced in connection with a March Alexandria break in.
Clayton Green pled guilty to aggravated burglary, receiving a five-year sentence to serve at 30 percent before he is eligible for release. He was given credit for time served from March 1-June 16.
Rachel Green pled guilty to aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000, and received a four-year sentence.  A four-years term for the burglary and two years for the theft charge are to run concurrently, and she must serve at least 30 percent. She was given 256 days credit for time served. The terms will also run concurrently to charges against her in Smith, Wilson, and Franklin counties. She was ordered to make restitution.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said after his department received a tip about a planned break-in at a Lower Helton Road home,  the residence was placed under surveillance. A detective reportedly watched the pair enter the house, and detained them when they exited the residence.
According to Ray, Clayton and Rachel Green both entered the residence through a garage door. They reportedly took a knife collection, a bag of change, a camera, a chain saw, nail guns, a jig saw, a .38 special Rossi revolver, a .22 caliber Heritage pistol, a .410 shotgun, a 12-gauge bolt action shotgun, several items of gold jewelry, and other items with a a total value of more than $1,000.
Rachel reportedly entered a pickup truck on the property as well, taking  a .22 caliber pistol valued at under $500.
Meanwhile, Shelly Renae Newby, 21, pled guilty to two counts of theft of property over $1,000 and received a two-year sentence suspended to supervised probation in both cases. The terms are to run concurrently with each other,  and with sentences against her in Rutherford and Wilson counties.
The sheriff said that Newby and a co-defendant, 29 year old Brandon Lynn Tallent allegedly took three tractor trailer starters and a cast-iron intake manifold from an Old Snow Hill Road property on Jan. 19.
The total value of the items was placed at more than $1,000.
Then, on Jan. 20, Ray said Newby and Tallent took two trailers and small gasoline engines from the same property. Those items are were also valued at more than $1,000.
The pair apparently returned to the same property on Jan. 25, taking valve covers, a gas tank, an intake manifold and struts. Those items were valued at less than $500. Ray said they were found in the back of Tallent's vehicle when he was pulled over for a traffic infraction.
Newby reportedly admitted that she and Tallent had taken items from the property on several previous occasions.
Tallent pleaded guilty by information in June to two counts of theft over $1,000, receiving a four-year sentence in each case to run concurrently, all suspended to supervised probation. He was ordered to pay restitution.
