To introduce art students and the community to the state's professional artists, Tennessee Tech University's Appalachian Center for Craft is starting a monthly lecture series.
The first lecturer is Isaac Duncan III, a Chattanooga-based sculptor whose work has been on display in the Craft Center's Front Gallery since the end of December. His lecture will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 4. The show, "Relations," closes Feb. 5.
The lecture and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Duncan has worked as an artist-in-residence in studios and galleries in Illinois and Michigan and at Chattanooga's Association of Visual Artists. He has taught art in Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee.
The series, which is designed to help regional and student artists discover how professionals make a living off of their art, is a partnership between the Craft Center and Tennessee Craft, a Nashville-based non-profit.
The Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at exit 273, Smithville/McMinnville. Go south on state Route 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Center for Craft.
