A two-car crash on East Broad Street seriously injured two people Saturday night. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevy Blazer, driven by Judy Merriman, 51, and a 2001 Suzuki, driven by 22-year-old Rosedaly R. Hernandez of McMinnville, collided almost head on near Foutch Industries just after 6 p.m. Merriman was transported to DeKalb Community Hospital by DeKalb EMS, and was later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Hernandez was immediately flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Merriman was reportedly traveling east on Highway 70 when she pulled into the turning lane and crossed the path of the westbound Hernandez. The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department was called to extricate both women from their vehicles. Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department, Smithville Police Department and the THP were at the scene.
