An unidentified teenage boy was airlifted after two vehicles collided near the intersection of Hurricane Ridge and Highway 70 Sunday afternoon.
According to Trooper Mark Jones of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 17 year old boy, driving a 2007 Pontiac G5, pulled out from Hurricane Ridge Road to go east on Highway 70 when he was struck by a westbound 1999 Ford F-150 driven by Steven Glynn, 45.
The DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department’s Extrication and Rescue Team was called to remove the trapped teenager, who was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Glynn was not seriously injured in the crash.
Members of the DeKalb EMS and the Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old Manchester man was airlifted after his vehicle hit a telephone pole on Highway 70 east early Sunday morning.
Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the accident occurred just after midnight, when Roy Gipson, driving a 2002 Ford F150 and traveling west on Highway 70 left the roadway on the right side of road and hit a utility pole, causing power lines to fall onto the vehicle. Emergency personnel were forced to wait for a crew from the Caney Fork Electric to arrive to make sure the power was off before removing the man from the truck. Gipson was flown to Erlanger Hospital by helicopter.
The trooper said that while Gipson said he fell asleep while driving, alcohol was likely a factor in the crash, and that charges are pending.
Members of the DeKalb EMS, Sheriff’s Department, and DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
