Two people have been charged with initiation of a process to manufacture meth and possession of drug paraphernalia by city police after officers reportedly found them in possession of meth lab components in a field at the end of Snow Street.
Lynn J. Jones, 37, and 20-year-old Latasha Cantrell were charged after police were dispatched to a call of suspicious activity and allegedly found them in possession of a two-liter bottle and a 20-ounce bottle containing sodium hydroxide and lithium, a 20-ounce bottle half filled with muriatic acid, used hypodermic needles, a glass pill vial, and several empty packs of pseudoephedrine.
According to Smithville Police Chief Randy Caplinger, officer Steven Barrett responded to a complaint of suspicious activity on Snow Street on Oct. 26.
Upon arrival, he saw two flashing lights in a field at the end of the street.
The officer reportedly made contact with Jones and Cantrell in the field, and found them in possession of shovels and a pick.
The other items were found eight to 10 feet away.
Sergeant Andy Snow and Officer James Cornelius arrived on the scene to assist and Detective Matt Holmes was called to investigate.
The meth lab task force was called to clean up the scene.
Jones and Cantrell will be in court on the charges Nov. 3.
Jones’ bond is set at $130,000 and Cantrell’s is $80,000.
Elsie Mae Judkins, 42, is charged with theft of property and aggravated burglary.
According to police, on Friday, Sept. 30, Judkins allegedly broke into a home on Braswell Lane.
In October, Detective Matt Holmes reportedly discovered that some compact discs stolen from the residence had been sold to Hastings in McMinnville.
Police recovered some of the items from the store, and Judkins was identified through store video surveillance as the person who made the sale.
She was later arrested at a residence on Anthony Avenue.
David Haug, 49, originally from Idaho, but apparently homeless at the time of his arrest, was charged with criminal trespassing on Oct. 28.
Haug was allegedly repeatedly asked to leave a local business and refused. He eventually left the premises and was asked not to return to the property.
He reportedly did return, and police were called.
His bond is $1,500 and he will be in court on Dec. 8.
Tamara Renee Lloyd, 25, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 27.
Police were reportedly called to a disturbance at a Gentry Avenue home, where the officer on the scene found drug paraphernalia containing marijuana residue.
Lloyd will be in court on Nov. 17.
Cougar Pursley, 22, of Granville, was charged with a first offense of driving under the influence on Oct. 27.
City police were dispatched to investigate a traffic accident on West Broad Street, and Pursley, who was involved in the wreck, was found to be unsteady on his feet with an odor of alcohol on his person.
He allegedly performed poorly on all field sobriety tasks.
Pursley is under a $1,500 bond and he will be in court on Nov. 17.
Megan Ashley Cook, 32, was charged with theft under $500 in a shoplifting incident at the Dollar General Store on Oct. 26.
Her bond is $1,500 and she will be in court on Nov. 17
Carol Ann Ballinger, 44, of Lebanon, was cited for theft of property in a shoplifting incident at the Dollar General Store on Oct. 11.
She will be in court on Nov. 11.
